With recent investment in new premises and machinery, Angus F Gunn Ltd is always striving to exceed customers’ expectations. Now operating from a 3 ½ acre site in Airdrie, we have significantly increased plate stock, enabling greater flexibility and shorter lead times. With Cad/Cam software, four cutting machines, a dynamic workforce and our own transport, Angus F Gunn Ltd can react to customers’ demands and provide genuine flexibility.

With recent investment in our Voortman V310 plasma / gas cutter with CNC drilling capabilities, Esprit XPR300 bevelling machine and our Bystronic 10kw BySmart Fibre Laser machine Angus F Gunn Ltd has the ability to satisfy customer needs no matter their requirements.

Our recently installed MRP system allows us to track jobs from start to finish. Giving full traceability and accurate documentation.

Any shape can be cut via our cad/cam software and CNC machines, shape nesting software is used to maximise plate yield and therefore keep the cost down. Customers may also email electronic drawing files direct to our sales team.

Voortman V310 Plate Processing Centre:

The Voortman V310 has been a great addition to the workshop. Whether plasma or oxy/gas cutting, the addition of a drilling station to the 10000 x 3000 bed allows large area parts to be cut and drilled quickly and accurately. Drilling from Ø6mm to Ø40mm and tapping from M8 to M30 can all be completed inline, drastically reducing handling and setup costs. Parts can be etched with drawing numbers or job details to allow for easy identification.

Esprit XPR300 Plasma Plus Bevel Head:

Our Esprit plasma machine is ideal for larger area projects with a 12000 x 3500 bed size, cutting from 2mm up to 40mm thick plate. The Mulitbevel cutting head produces V, A, and Top-Y style cuts from 0 to 45°. Coupled with our CadCam software, bevelled edges can be produced quickly and accurately.

The XPR300 can also etch part numbers, bend lines and setting out details to save time during assembly.

OxyGas Profile Cutting Machine:

The OxyGas profile cutting machine allows us to cut up to 250mm thick plate. With an 8000 x 3500 bed, 4 cutting torches and serviced by two 10 tonne overhead cranes, we have the capacity to take on most jobs.

Bystronic 10kw BySmart Fibre Laser:

The latest investment at Angus F Gunn Ltd is the Bystronic 10kw BySmart Fibre Laser which has added another process to our capabilities.

The compact BySmart Fiber offers excellent cutting performance with up to 10 kilowatts of laser power meaning we can cut up to 30mm thick mild steel.

The high power laser increases efficiency and improves cutting quality, coupled with the fully automated plate loading system cycle times are greatly reduced saving the customer time and money. Whether your requirements are a one-off intricate part or a repetitive call off we are here to help.

Morgan Rushworth 440t Press Brake – Pressing and Forming:

Our press brake is suitable for short, thin lengths, such as stair treads, through to large heavy plates used in bespoke structural engineering projects.

For example, we can press 4100mm long x 15mm thick to an angle of 90°.

Flat plate can be pressed in multiple positions in a wide range of materials to create complex shapes in non-standard sizes and reducing the number of welds required during further fabrication.

Drilling / Tapping / Countersinking:

Working alongside our Voortman V310 the Akyapak CNC plate drill gives Angus F Gunn Ltd further drilling capabilities.

The Akyapak Plate Drill can drill up to Ø55mm holes through 6mm to 80 mm thick plate within its working area off 1000 x 1500. Controlled via CNC programs, drilled holes are positioned accurately every time. This offline CNC drilling centre further increases our efficiency and offers us excellent flexibility.

Offline Bevelling:

Services bevel

Bevelling is the process of creating an angled sloped edge on a piece of metal. Most often this is used in preparation for a welding seam though a bevelled edge has multiple uses. Our off line process is very flexible, offering V, Y and K bevels up to an angle of 60 degrees through 60mm thick plate.

V Bevel (single weld prep)

The desired angle of the edge prep goes completely through the thickness of the plate, leaving no flat edge.

Y Bevel (weld prep with root face)

The desired angle of the edge prep goes partially through the thickness of the plate, leaving a flat edge on the thickness dimension.

K Bevel (double weld prep)

The desired angle of the edge preps goes partially through the thickness of the plate, cutting from both top and bottom to create angled finish on top and bottom faces.
